This award for achievement in tourism is named after a son of Lübbenau, the teacher and local historian, Paul Fahlisch (1844-1930).

Who was Paul Fahlisch?
In 1886, Paul Fahlisch founded the first Spreewald Society which covered the Lübbenau area towards Spremberg via Cottbus.

Together with the Director of the Royal School of Arts & Crafts in Görlitz, Prof. Woite, he began to advertise the Spreewald as a tourist destination in the last third of the 19th century.

The 2010 Paul Fahlisch Award which is awarded in recognition of innovative services and marketing in the Spreewald was presented on 31st March to pro gastra Cottbus for its "Spreewald and Lusatia Bike Touring Partner" project as part of the first Spreewald Trade Fair held in Calau.

The panel awarded second place to the Spreewelten Sauna- & Badeparadies in Lübbenau for its "Swimming with penguins" project.

Third prize in the contest for the Paul Fahlisch Award went to the project for "Boosting the Camping Tourist Industry in the Spreewald and Dahme Lake District" implemented by the "Camping in the Spreewald" working group.

Every two years, we present the Paul Fahlisch Award for innovative services and marketing in tourism in the Spreewald. We look for new ideas of all kinds or improvements in the quality of existing services and facilities. The main criterion is to provide evidence of sustainability.

• The Paul Fahlisch Award is presented by the local tourism association, Tourismusverband Spreewald e. V.
• The award comes with prize money of € 1,500.
• Anyone can enter the innovative services and marketing of tourism they offer in the Spreewald economic development area and submit these as a project (we are looking for new ideas of all kinds or improvements in the quality of existing services and facilities, whereby it is important to provide evidence of sustainability).
• Your submission should contain a brief but concise description of the project, products or initiatives on offer.
