Castles in the Spreewald
Interactive exhibitions, exotic water pyramids and first-class restaurants - each of the castles in the Spreewald has its own special feature. The Spreewald has a large number of castles that provide information about the eventful history of the region.
Some of the castles have been privatised and are run as hotels or restaurants, others house exhibitions that provide information about the life and everyday life of the noble families. The castle ensemble usually includes a lovingly landscaped castle park, which invites visitors to take walks and attend cultural events.
Famous castles
One of the most famous castles in the Spreewald is Branitz Castle with its extensive parkland, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. Among the special features of the grounds are the green water pyramids, which house the final resting place of Prince Pückler. The castle itself houses an exhibition that provides information about the extravagant prince.
In the Renaissance castle in Lübben, visitors will find the interactive town and regional museum. Despite numerous alterations, the magnificent exterior façade still hints at the previous building constructed in the 15th century. The Renaissance castle in Lübbenau is home to an exclusive 4-star hotel and two first-class restaurants. The English landscape garden belonging to the castle ensemble invites you to take a leisurely stroll after your visit to the restaurant.
The town castle in Vetschau, built in 1540, with its moat and baroque knights' hall is a popular setting for wedding celebrations. But regular visitors can also learn about the history of the castle in the exhibition.
