Hiking on the Fontane Way

Many people only know Theodor Fontane as a poet. What most do not know: He was a bon vivant who knew how to travel and loved to lose himself in the charm of the Spreewald in his works.

The Fontane Weg in the Spreewald starts at the Waldschlösschenstraße in Burg-Kauper, where you pass inns and barge harbours typical of the Spreewald region until you reach the Waldschlösschenhafen. Over bridges and past the hustle and bustle of the Waldschlösschen lock, further along Fontane Weg, you will find yourself right in the middle of unique nature experiences in the Spreewald.

On your hiking tour in the Spreewald, you will pass old Spreewald farms, some of which are still listed. Once on the Weidenweg, you should definitely pay a visit to the Piezonka pottery and marvel at typical Spreewald craftsmanship. After you have crossed the "Neue Spree", you are already very close to your hiking destination - you can already spot the "Landhotel Burg im Spreewald"? Great, then you've made it!

  • Length: about 11 km
