The village of Schlepzig

(Slopišća)

A historic flour mill, an extensive farmer's museum and the Spreewald distillery are among the special features in Schlepzig. Located 12 km north of Lübben, Schlepzig is considered the centre of the Lower Spreewald.

The idyllic village looks like a small artists' village and is an ideal starting point for boat trips through the Spreewald. In 2004, the village celebrated its thousandth anniversary, making it one of the oldest communities in the state of Brandenburg.

Places of interest in Schlepzig

The farm museum in Schlepzig, designed as a neat farm complex, provides insights into the way of life and living of the Spreewald inhabitants in the 19th century. The 5000 m² farm complex includes old farmhouses, barns, a herb garden, small animals and a bakehouse with a clay oven where people still bake according to old recipes. Also recommended is a visit to the willow dome and the visitor centre of the Spreewald biosphere reserve. The Spreewald Brewery and the Spreewald Distillery in Schlepzig are proof that the Spreewald offers not only Spreewald gherkins but also delicious regional specialities.

In the historic grain mill in Schlepzig, the traditional craft of the former miller families is cultivated. At weekends, visitors can buy freshly baked mill bread here.
